Praying for Confidence

Cheryl Author Fair

One of my favorite parts of being a writer is being able to stay home and type away behind the safety of my computer screen. That’s probably why I took so easily to online book promotion.

Recently, I was asked by our local librarian to participate in the annual author fair. I’ve never attended an event such as this before and it made me a bit nervous. My anxiety increased upon learning I would be the first to speak. What should I wear? What should I say? What if I bombed? Yikes!

It didn’t turn out that bad. Not only did I have a chance to support some of the members of my writing group, I also met several other talented local authors and people actually showed up: my understanding is these events can be hit or miss.

In the weeks leading up to the author fair, I ordered copies of my books and considered what I would talk about. I also relied heavily upon two Bible passages to bolster my confidence:

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Joshua 1:9  “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Just as in other parts of life, stepping outside your comfort zone can require some heavenly intervention. How do you bolster your confidence when approaching something new? Do you have any favorite Bible verses you like to read when feeling uncertain or anxious?
