Does God guide individuals? Does He have a purpose and plan for every individual life? Can I ever be sure that I am in the pathway of His will, and if I miss that pathway sometime, am I perpetually condemned to a second-best kind of existence? Is guidance confined to the big things of life, or must I refer everything to God’s direction?
If these are the kind of questions in your mind, then this book is for you. After an introductory chapter in which Denis Lane sets out ten principles for knowing God’s guidance 27 members of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship share their experiences in relation to such diverse topics such as marriage and children, houses and staff, missionary call and type of work, and the manifold details of everyday life.
In this book guidance is clothed in flesh and blood!

I received this book as a present when I got baptised at the age of 13 from a couple who were preparing to go to the mission field in Brazil – and it has remained on my bookshelf in easy access ever since!
You see, although the stories are about missionaries telling stories of how God guided them, the guidance principles work for whatever area of life you need guidance. And whenever I need guidance, and am a little lost, I reach for this book and read it all over again.
In the first chapter Denis Lane writes about 10 Principles for Guidance based on Acts 10, giving a brief explanation on each.
Then each principle has a chapter of its own that has a few short missionary stories that highlight how that principle worked.
Do you have teens in your family who are wondering what the next step is and how they can know God’s will?
Maybe you have teens in your youth group that are wondering the same thing?
Maybe you are wondering that for yourself?
Then I can highly recommend this book. Each principle is short, but concise, and so are the stories. There is enough there to be helpful, but not so deep or long as to overwhelm. I remember as a 13-year-old being interested in it, and then using it throughout my teen and now adult years. It’s a book that reaches the young, but will also interest the adults. It doesn’t lose its usefulness!
You can give it as a gift to an individual, or in your Youth Group or as a family read through the principles together, read the stories related, and then chat about it together.
Unfortunately, this book can only now be got second-hand, but I have seen it for reasonable prices on both Amazon and eBay, so it will be fairly easy to get hold of it.
Whatever areas of life you find you need guidance – here’s the book to help you find your way!
