I John 5:3 and Colossians 3:20 are two verses that connect obedience with loving and honoring God. But why does obeying show love and honor?
Obedience isn’t easy–whether you’re a child or an adult. We all want our own way. When we choose to obey someone, we are telling them that we respect and trust them enough to make the right decision. We are putting ourselves second and someone else first.
It’s so important that children never feel like what their parents tell them to do, or what God tells us to do in the Bible, are just lists of rules. They need to understand that it’s not just about, “Do as I say.” It’s critical that they understand that the heart of obedience really is about our hearts. Do we love God, and do we trust Him? And for children, do we love and trust our parents, which also pleases God? What are some ways you can think of that we can practice that with the children in our lives? Share with us in the comments.
I hope these fun activities help you share with your children about the heart of obedience.
