Have you come across Paul White and his Jungle Doctor fables?
My dad had both the fables and the picture fables. I have special memories of when he would read the picture fables to me.
I loved the pictures. They were bright and clear and appealed to me. Those animals definitely came to life in those pictures! Illustrator Peter Oram captured the heart and soul of the stories with his drawings.
The stories about the animals in Africa also caught my attention. Most children seem to love stories about animals whether they are pets, farm animals or wild animals.
The message of the Gospel and other Bible truths for Christian living are simply yet clearly explained and when reading to children, these are books I love to share. My children’s class at church loved it when I shared these stories. They talked about them afterwards and remembered each well the following weeks when I asked questions on the story they had the previous week.
My nephews are now enjoying these stories – and learning timeless truths about God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Gospel as they read and reread these stories.
In The Cool Pool, Koko the monkey learns all about grace – how it is a free gift, even when we don’t deserve it. It can’t be earned. The lesson at the end tells children about God’s grace in forgiving us our sins and giving us everlasting life. It doesn’t cost us anything but instead cost the Lord Jesus everything when He died on the cross. All we need to do is accept His wonderful gift of grace. The lesson then tells us where we can read about grace in the Bible – Ephesians 2:4-9.
