Author Karen Whiting has written a wonderful new book called 52 Weekly Devotions for Families Called to Serve. From reading Scripture with family to hands-on activities, the reader will discover ways to encourage family time and sharing. These devotions are for families who serve in any capacity. From volunteers to military to first responders, each person who serves can find inspiration in this book.

Karen Whiting, a freelance writer and award winning author of twenty-six nonfiction books, loves to let creativity splash onto the pages as she writes. Karen’s books include the popular tween series God’s Girls (inspirational craft books) and Raising a Young Modern Day Princess for parents.

I recently asked Karen to answer a few questions. Read and learn more about author Karen Whiting.

Do you have a favorite time of day to write? I write all day, 5 days a week unless I am traveling.

Who are some of your favorite authors? Jane Austin, Carol Mayhill, James Bryan Smith, Max Lucado. I’m not someone who has favorite authors really. I like a variety but I do prefer non-fiction.

Can you share some words of wisdom about writing devotions? They are like the proverb says, “Apples of Gold in Settings of Silver”. A great and beautiful serving of nourishment in a lovely setting.

What is your hope for the books you write? That they will draw people closer to one another and God. I want families to thrive and hope my books equip them to do that better. I grew up in a functional family with strong faith and surrounded by lots of extended family raised a functional family and they now have great families. I want that for everyone. Also, when I felt like my family was being selfish and not getting along, I decided we needed to do something more so I created new family devotions that included fun elements and that drew us together. My kids are great, close, faithful, and always there for one another and me.

Karen Whiting, thank you for sharing with us.
