I’ve always had a hard time with the story of Job. It’s a challenging story to understand, and it’s not an easy story to share with children. The part that has always stood out to me, though, is at the end of Job, when God speaks. “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?” Job 38:12-13 NIV.
God wants us to see Him as a loving Father, a Friend, a Bridegroom, and a tender Shepherd, but there are times we must quietly and reverently see Him as God. There are things He does and things He knows that we cannot possibly understand this side of Heaven. When we don’t feel like we’re getting answers, or not getting the answers we want, it’s not because God doesn’t “feel” like answering. Sometimes it’s because we simply could not understand the answer if He gave it.
We see it with the children in our own lives. There are times we make decisions they cannot possibly understand, and no amount of explanation in the world will make the answer make sense to them. They are simply too small and too young to understand. So are we. Praise God we have a Father who shows Himself faithful, even when we can’t understand His ways.
