Autumn is a beautiful season of the year as the leaves on the trees gradually change colour, giving us a glorious display of reds, oranges, yellows and browns. Eventually we end up with a carpet of leaves to walk on which, when the weather is nice, I love to walk across and hear the crisp crunch of the leaves beneath my feet, or listen to the swish of the leaves as I pass through a deeper fall of them.
Enjoying this season with children is very special. There is so much to see and do at the time of year. A great activity to do with children is a Scavenger Hunt. Children will enjoy hunting for the particular things on their sheet. (There are lots online that you can find, if you don’t want to make your own.)
Before you go, read the story of creation. Then go back and look at what God created on Day 3. Then you can talk about the things we might find on our trip to the park/woods that God made.
With young children just taking along a basket and collecting all the different things you find
will be just as exciting for them. When you get back home you can look at the things you’ve collected and count how many different things you have found that God has made.
There are many things you can then do with the things you have collected. An autumn basket is nice, with one for display in the main room, and one that the children have that they can look at and play with if they want to.
