Twenty-twenty traditionally means good vision. When I think of the year 2020, I can’t help but connect the numerical date with a goal of clear Spiritual vision for myself, my home, and my country.
The focal point for getting clear Spiritual vision comes from reading and understanding God’s Word as revealed in the Scriptures. If we are to have a clear understanding of the God we worship, we need to be intentional and systematic about reading and studying the clear Word he has given us in the Bible.
Last year I challenged our CCA readers to read the Bible with me in chronological order. Some of you joined me and other Christians in this challenge. I learned so much more than in previous times when I read through the Bible, and there is so much more yet to learn.
This year I plan to slow down the pace a little by spreading out the Old Testament over two years and by stretching the New Testament and Psalms out over the full year. I believe I will get even more out of it when I can take more time to dwell over the passages. Next year I will read the New Testament and Psalms again as I finish reading the Old Testament.
I didn’t create this reading plan from scratch. It was originally created by Robert Murry M’Cheyne as a way to read through the Bible in one year on four different tracks. I revised it by saving two tracks for the second year. I created a set of bookmarks that can be used to make it easy to keep up with the reading plan. It can be downloaded here: Two-Year Bible Reading Plan
With this slower reading pace, it may be possible to read the passages aloud with your family for devotions. It may work best to choose one track, either the Old Testament or the New Testament, to read with the family. If your family is willing, you could have two reading times, one at a meal and the other in the family room in the evening. Much depends on the age(s) and attention span of your children. However you choose, even if you don’t read it to your family, you will demonstrate the importance of regularly reading the Bible as they see you read and as you share with them your excitement over what you are learning.
Those who choose to follow this plan are invited to follow me on my personal blog, www.hiswhisperings.com and/or through my Facebook group at www.facebook.com/groups/TwoYearBibleReadingPlan/.
